We really like books at Brine Leas and have spent a lot of money on new stock for the library. Our staff know their Anthony Horowitz from their Malorie Blackman and John Steinbeck and can give friendly recommendations as to appropriate reading.
We’ve invested in Accelerated Reader, both in timetabled library lessons as well as out of hours provision. We encourage students to take their quizzes and get their words read counted up.
We have a new Brine Leas Library app, which is free to download. The app enables students to use their smartphones & tablets to search the library catalogue, reserve books and explore the online resources wherever they are.
The library is involved in many book awards and reading schemes including Cheshire Schools Book Quiz and The Carnegie Shadowing Group.
There is the opportunity for students to become Library Monitors during Year 8 and be involved in many tasks and events.
The Library has a large collection of up-to-date books to support and extend the curriculum. It also stocks a wide range of books to encourage reading for pleasure. The library has a comprehensive reference collection which students can access for independent research.
The PC Zone houses for networked computers that can be accessed both before and after school and during the lunch break. As demand for the machines is high students are encourage to book in advanced.
We think that students should use the library for quiet reading and study before and after school. At lunchtimes students are permitted to chat quietly with their friends on the proviso they do not disturb students who may be working.
Staff would be grateful if students would observe the no food, drink or gum policy.
